A Bit About Red!
When I saw a photo of Red, I fell in love. However, when I met her in person, I could not believe how stunning this jennet truly was. She is remarkably dark... almost appearing brown... but has beautiful, red eyelashes. She also has the most distinct primitive markings that I personally have ever seen.
As I stated in Jewel's write-up, Jewel and Red are our last jennets, to be added to the herd... at least for a few years. Initially, I had only been looking to add one more donkey to our herd. I had been presented with several donkeys, from a few different farms, but I was patiently waiting for our last "dream" donkey to appear.
When we found out that our friends, Herb and Bonnie, were retiring from breeding... I had to get in touch with them. Honestly, I did not talk to them with the intentions of getting a donkey. Well... after a 2-hour phone call, I could not resist the opportunity that Herb presented to me. I was offered CbarChass Always Dreaming Red and, her niece, Assphalt Acres Red Jewel. They are both Dark Red Jennets, especially Li'l Red, and are both around 33" tall. My mother specifically wanted an extremely dark red and I wanted a red who was also more of a performance height, since we have a shorter herd. Little did I know that, when talking with Herb and Bonnie, he would have our dream donkey x 2. Thank you, Herb and Bonnie, for trusting us with your girls.
I am extremely grateful that I did not rush into trying to add a couple of more donkeys to our herd. After purchasing our last donkey, Cotton Top, I waited over a year before adding these two to our herd. Being patient allowed us to complete one of the best herds we could have ever asked for.
Once we brought the two girls home, I quickly exposed them to Cotton Top, just for a short amount of time. Li'l Red did not take but Jewel did. I am not surprised that Red did not take, especially since I only bred Cotton Top to her twice. I will be putting her with him again in the spring.
Red's pedigree is very extensive with well-known names... including her father Sunset Acres Radio Flyer, Circle C Black Russian, MGF Fiftyfire 519, S.S. Red Lightning, Windcrest Little Red Man, LCR Valentino 50, Boone's, Circle C Little Motown, Hartman Donkeys, and more! She is also a full sister to the very successful and well-known jack, CbarChass Ruffy Jr.
